Moving in Metairie
Metairie looks simple on a map: flat, gridded, close to everything. The trouble is in the details, and the details are different on every side of Veterans.
Low oak limbs over Metairie Road and Northline, and driveways narrower than they look. We send our smaller 20-foot truck to Old Metairie so nothing scrapes a branch or a gutter, and we protect the old hardwood from the door in.
Walk-ups off Transcontinental and elevator buildings near Lakeside with move windows and certificate-of-insurance rules. Tell us the building and we call the manager, book the elevator and send the paperwork ahead.
Veterans and Causeway jam at rush hour and on Lakeside Shopping Center weekends. We start early and time the drive between your two addresses so you're not paying for the truck to sit at a light.
Moving from Metairie to Mandeville, Covington or Madisonville? The Causeway is 24 miles of bridge, so we schedule Northshore moves Tuesday through Thursday when we can, when the traffic is lightest.
Older raised houses and tight streets near the 17th Street Canal. We walk the approach before the truck arrives and carry through the side yard when the front stoop won't work.

A few things decide how smoothly a Metairie move goes, and most of them are about the calendar.
From June to September the afternoon heat and pop-up storms arrive together. We start Metairie moves as early as the building allows, and we wrap and cover everything that crosses the driveway so a 3 o'clock shower doesn't soak a mattress.
Most apartment leases in Fat City and along Veterans turn over on the 1st, so the last three days of the month and the weekends book first. A mid-month weekday is the easiest date to get, and usually the quickest move.
The Metairie parades roll on Veterans Boulevard, and the route closes for hours on parade nights. We keep moves off the Veterans corridor on those evenings and plan the drive around the barricades.
From June through November we watch the Gulf the week of your move. If a storm is coming, we'd rather move you a day early than leave your furniture on a truck in the rain.
